The Senior Staff of Polytechnic(SSANIP),Abia poly chapter commenced strike on January 8, 2018 to press home their demand for payment of nine months arrears of salaries owed to the polytechnic workers.

An eye witness report, yesterday revealed that as academic session of 2017/2018 commenced yesterday, most offices were locked and workers were seen standing in groups around the premises discussing their ordeal.According to a worker who spoke on conditions of unanimity,NASU a sister body to SSANIP has also threatened to join the strike after this week if salaries were not paid.

Staff of the polytechnic found in the community were also expressing deep worries and anxiety over a list purported to have emanated from the ministry of education concerning hundreds of staff slated for various levels of disengagement. The list however, has not been pasted in the polytechnic notice boards but it was confirmed that the list is with management and will be communicated soon.
